The United Kingdom has always been a top destination for those who seek a second chance in
life. People of all ages, races, religions, sexual orientations and ideologies have sought in
the UK a new place to call home, and to enjoy peaceful and fulfilling lives. Many of them come
here in response to persecution in their home country. In those cases, immigrants face an additional
plethora of challenges in their journey for resettlement, especially in the case of those who
request asylum or protection under the Violence against Women Act.
The Human Rights Act was enacted by Parliament to give effect to provisions of the European
Convention of Human Rights before UK Courts and in applications to the Home Office.
